Favorite trip

Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

Yukon River Camp in Alaska. I met all kinds of people up that way. Forest ranger, truckers, cyclists… so few people and so much country. No cell service, limited internet (I didn’t pay) and fuel, and so much untouched by humanity.

It’s above the arctic circle and the only road there–the Dalton Highway–is mostly unpaved. They dump dirt on it for traction, and it’s like driving through a bumpy construction site the entire way from Fairbanks. Most rental cars are banned.

If you were lost and needed help, you likely would get help from a trucker on their way to or from the top of the state. It would be advisable to have a satellite phone or CB radio, however.

The actual camp.
Parking lot.
Down the hill. To the right. Old cabin. Yukon River.
Down the hill. To the left. Yukon River. Wooden bridge.
Taken while en route. Vast wilderness.
A new tree.
Somewhere north of Fairbanks.
Finger mountain rest stop. No food. Just a few signs and basic restrooms.
Finger mountain.
Arctic circle boundary. One sign for each direction.
Roadside. Dalton highway.
